Firearm Registries

Each Australian state and territory has different laws and regulations concerning the storage and transportation of firearms and ammunition. To familiarise yourself with the requirements for your area, including the various Firearms Acts and Explosives Acts and information about fees, licences, registrations or prohibited items, contact your local firearms registry.

Firearms licensing & registration departments

Obtain a firearms license.

      To complete your online application you will need:

  • A MyServiceNSW Account linked to the NSW Police Force

  • Firearms Safety Training Certificate

  • Supporting documents for your Genuine Reason and Special Need

  • A credit card for payment of the license fee (if applicable)

Firearms identification

All stolen firearms must be reported to your local police station or firearms registry. The South Australia Police website includes a section where you can search for a firearm by its serial number.
